Tips on how to take great vaction photos

Summer photos aren’t just about pressing the shutter button; they’re about capturing the feeling of long sunny days, new places, and spontaneous moments. Whether you’re exploring a new city or relaxing by the sea, a few simple tips can help turn your photos into memories you’ll really want to revisit.

  • Use the grid: turn on the camera grid (Settings > Camera > Grid) to follow the rule of thirds. This will help you compose your shots like a pro — perfect for capturing sunsets on the beach or bustling markets.

  • Avoid the bright midday sun: try shooting during the “golden hour”, just after sunrise or before sunset, when the light is soft and warm. Midday sun can create harsh shadows and make people squint.

  • Tap to focus: before shooting, tap on the subject to lock the focus and adjust the lighting correctly. Your iPhone will also automatically adjust the exposure!

  • Add bright colors: summer is full of bright colors: beach towels, fruit stands, blue skies. Don’t be afraid to fill your frame with color.

  • Clean your lens: it’s easy to forget. A quick wipe (especially after applying sunscreen or swimming!) can make a big difference in the clarity of your photo.

  • Try Live Photos or slow motion: Live Photos capture movement and sound — perfect for shooting crashing waves or laughing friends. And slow motion? Perfect for jumping into the pool.

  • Capture spontaneous moments: sometimes the best memories aren’t staged. Capture your friends in the middle of laughter or children running through sprinklers.

Final Thoughts

Summer memories fade quickly, but your photos shouldn’t. Whether it’s the golden light of sunset on the beach, a moment with ice cream, or just a quiet morning view from your window, these little snapshots carry much more than just pixels—they hold stories.

So, once you’ve captured your favorite summer days, take a few minutes to save them securely. Your future self (the one stuck in rainy October) will thank you.

And by the way, don’t worry too much about getting the “perfect shot”. Sometimes blurriness, an unexpected photobomb, or a slightly crooked horizon are exactly what make memories feel real.
