Hi! My name is Victoria. My parents are just back from their trip to China. So, I wish to make a slideshow for them as a little present. They can rewatch it every time they get nostalgic about the time they spent there.

My mom grabbed the pics on her Samsung, and they happened to be in HEIF. If I edit HEIF photos directly, it’s highly possible they will lose in quality. That’s why I need to convert HEIF to PNG. I find it more convenient to do on my Windows PC because I can convert the whole folder of images in one go.

I won’t use online converters. First, because I’m not sure about their privacy. Second, they are not convenient for bulk conversion. And last but not the least, they are often a scam.

How to make a HEIF into a PNG?

If the photos you need to convert are still on your Samsung or iPhone, you will need to copy them to the PC first. If your photos are already on your PC, simply skip the step where I show how to drag and drop photos to a folder.

Important! Windows doesn’t support HEIF by default. It means that to see the thumbnails and view the HEIF photos, you need a HEIF extension. So, let’s first install it. The app we will install is a plugin, a converter and a tool for managing iPhone photos on Windows, all in one. It’s called CopyTrans Studio. I use it for conversion.

Download CopyTrans Studio.exe to your PC, install the program normally (see a setup guide if necessary).

It’s important to restart the PC after the installation. You’ll then be able to see HEIF thumbnails, view HEIF photos without conversion, and convert HEIF to PNG!

We’re now ready to copy the photos to the PC. Your HEIF photos will be renamed to HEIC on Windows. Don’t worry – it’s all about the same extension.

If you have an Android

• Connect your device to the PC.
• Open a folder on your desktop and then click on “This PC” on the left.
• Open your Android folder and drag and drop the pictures to your desktop.

If you have an iPhone

• Connect the iPhone to the PC.
• Open a folder on your desktop and click on “CopyTrans Studio” on the left.
• Click on your iPhone -> Photo Library -> all photos.

• Drag and drop the pictures you want to convert to your desktop.

The program creates a separate folder with all the PNG files inside. And the work is done quickly and easily! I can now move to the most exciting part – editing photos and making the slideshow.
